Mr. Shani Abeysekara, the former director of the Criminal Investigation Department, has filed a case before the Colombo District Court demanding a compensation of Rs. 100 lakhs.
In that petition, Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Western Province Deshbandu Tennakoon, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Colombo Crime Division Neville Silva, Inspector General of Police Jagath Nishantha and the Attorney General were named as defendants in the petition.
Through this petition filed through lawyer Manjula Balasuriya, Mr. Shani Abeysekera claims that the officers of the Colombo Crime Division conducted an investigation against him with malicious intent and revenge on the firearms found in connection with the murder of millionaire businessman Mohammad Shyam.
He points out that this investigation was conducted according to the decision of the Inspector General of Police and the Senior Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province.
During these investigations, Mr. Shani Abeysekara has mentioned in his petition that Colombo Crime Division Superintendent of Police Neville Silva and Police Inspector Jagath Nishantha had pressured various people to make false statements against him.
Accordingly, he has mentioned that the respondents were arrested and brought before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court and then remanded in custody and after many months they were released on the advice of the Attorney General.
Through this, Mr. Shani Abeysekera has filed this case demanding a compensation.
