The Disaster Management Center reported seven fatalities due to adverse weather conditions in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has directed all provincial health directors to remain alert and make necessary directives to ensure people’s safety and the hospitals’ smooth functioning.
Health Ministry Secretary Dr Palitha Mahipala said he is currently on an inspection tour in the Matara area given the severity of the weather conditions in the Southern district.
“All arrangements have been made to airlift patients in critical conditions for further treatment,” he said.
He also advised the general public not to visit places affected by the bad weather conditions.
