Later, in order to resolve it without going to court, it was reported that an amount of 14 lakh rupees had been requested from the beedi manufacturer, and he had refused it.
As a result of this, it is reported that the person was abducted from a three-wheeler, assaulted and extorted an amount of 10 lakh rupees, and we have also received the related CCTV footage.
However, later, the beedi producer filed a complaint with the Walasmulla Police regarding this incident.
Accordingly, the Tangalle Division Criminal Investigation Unit, which started investigations, arrested 05 suspects involved in this yesterday (25).
The station OIC of Tangalle Excise Unit, two Excise Controllers, an Excise Controller Driver and an Army Sergeant have been arrested.
After presenting the arrested suspects to the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court, the Magistrate has ordered that they be remanded until October 5th.
