The Excise Department has announced a remarkable achievement in revenue collection, reaching 232 billion rupees for the current year as of November 30th.
This milestone marks the highest revenue generated in the department’s 120-year history. The income has primarily been derived from excise duties on alcohol production and taxes under the Tobacco Tax Act.
Overcoming significant challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the country’s economic downturn in recent years, the department has successfully surpassed the 200-billion-rupee mark for the first time.
Despite facing a severe shortage of human resources, the department highlighted the achievement as particularly noteworthy given the current constraints.
