Estate Employers Set to Oppose Government’s 1700 Pay Gazette, Threatening Legal Action! Plantation Workers’ May Day Promise at Risk – Sri Lanka Latest News

The Plantation Employers’ Association says that it is not possible to increase the daily wages of plantation workers to 1700 rupees due to the high cost incurred in producing a kilo of tea. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

A senior officer of the union said that a gazette notice has also been issued that the wages of plantation workers have been increased to Rs 1700 from the night of the 30th.

The officer said that the gazette was issued without any discussion with the tea plantation companies, and the plantation companies have taken steps to approach the court to cancel the gazette.

The officer further said that a special discussion would be held in Colombo with the high officials of the tea estate companies on (02) and after that discussion, they would go to court.
