Electricity tariffs to be reduced from midnight today

Attending a press conference of the Public Utility Commission this (04) evening, its chairman Professor Manjula Fernando said that the electricity bill will be reduced from midnight tonight.

Accordingly, the Public Utilities Commission says that for electricity consumers with less than 30 units, the amount of 12 rupees charged per unit will be reduced to 8 rupees.

The Public Utilities Commission points out that it is a decrease of 33.3 per cent.

The electricity tariff has been lowered by 28 per cent for electricity consumers between 31 and 60 units.

Also, the electricity tariff for electricity consumers between 61 and 90 units has been reduced by 30 per cent.

Meanwhile, the electricity tariff for consumers between 91 and 180 units has been reduced by 24 per cent.

The electricity bill has been reduced by 18 per cent for domestic customers above 180 units.

A reduction of 33 per cent has been made for places of worship, and an 18 per cent reduction in electricity bills for hotels and industries.

The electricity bill belonging to the general purpose category has been reduced by 23 per cent and the electricity bill has been reduced by 22 per cent for the public sector.

Also, steps have been taken to reduce the electricity bill for street lights by 20 per cent.
