The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that electricity tariffs will not be revised this year.
This decision comes in response to repeated requests from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for additional time to submit a revised tariff proposal.
The PUCSL revealed that it had formally asked the CEB to submit a new proposal within an extended two-week deadline. The request was made after the initial tariff revision plan submitted by the CEB was deemed inadequate, as the proposed reduction percentage fell short of expectations.
According to the PUCSL, prevailing conditions could allow for greater reductions in electricity tariffs than those initially suggested. As such, the Commission granted the CEB a two-week period starting November 8 to present a revised plan.
However, the CEB failed to meet the deadline, which expired on November 22, and has since requested an additional two weeks to finalize its proposal.
Given this delay, the PUCSL has confirmed that there is no possibility of implementing a tariff revision within the current year.
