A special meeting of the Election Commission is set to take place on the 27th to determine the date for the local government elections.
Meanwhile, as per the gazette notification issued by the Minister responsible for the subject, the elections must be held before July 2. Accordingly, the elected members will be officially gazetted, ensuring the continued operation of all municipal councils, urban councils, and Pradeshiya Sabhas, stated Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake.
He made this announcement during an awareness workshop on the Elections Regulation Bill, conducted for public officials at the Ampara District Secretariat on the 21st.
