The Election Commission has reportedly written to the Acting Inspector General of Police, urging an investigation and appropriate action if the recent remarks made by the Prime Minister to her party members are found to be in violation of election laws.
The remarks in question were made in reference to the silence period ahead of the local government elections. The Prime Minister was quoted saying:
“We will be silent in four hours. But you don’t have to be. You can still continue your work in Shape by making a phone call or saying something while walking or coming and going.”
This statement, delivered on a public platform, has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many questioning its legality under election regulations.
When later confronted by a journalist regarding her comments, the Prime Minister responded that she was willing to face any legal consequences if her statement was deemed to have breached election law.
