“The Election Commission has no authority to nominate a police chief. What we can do is to ask the President who has the power to do the necessary things for that. Accordingly, yesterday the Election Commission decided to make that request to the President’s Secretary. Yesterday morning we made a request to the President’s Secretary to appoint the Inspector General of Police or an Acting Inspector General of Police. Accordingly, we have received a response from the President’s Secretary yesterday afternoon.
According to the President’s order, the Secretary to the President has informed the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security to take the necessary steps to provide all the police officers required for the security of the Presidential Election to carry out the election activities. Accordingly, we hope to call the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security and the Senior DIG in charge of Election Affairs to discuss this matter today,” said the Chairman of the Election Commission.
