The Election Commission has sent a letter to the Governor of the Southern Province Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena to immediately provide a report stating the reasons for such removal as a complaint has been received that two presidents of institutions in the Southern Province have been removed from their positions in violation of the election laws. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

A senior official of the Election Commission said that the matter was inquired after taking into consideration several complaints received.

But the official said that the governor had not presented the facts even yesterday.

The Election Commission says that when an election has been announced, it is prohibited by law to give positions, offer promotions, transfer, and remove from service.

In this regard, when we asked the Governor of the Southern Province Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, he said that the chairpersons of the Southern Development Authority and the Southern Development Authority were removed from their positions due to their use of government vehicles in Rathgama and Balapitiya for election activities.
