Mr. Dullas Alahapperuma says that after saying that there is no state of emergency in the country and withdrawing the state of emergency, there was is an attempt to use the “Prevention of Terrorism Act” as a general law to suppress public protests.

Mr. Dullas has stated this in a Twitter message.

Government's efforts to use "PTA" to suppress public protests, must be stopped. Historically, our nation has paid a heavy price for not identifying warning signs detrimental to civil society.@RW_UNP@UNHumanRights@hrw@amnesty@SaarcSec @EU_in_Sri_Lanka@USAmbSL @UKinSriLanka
