he Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, a specialist at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, who was previously arrested and remanded over allegations of corruption involving the sale of surgical equipment to patients at inflated prices.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga issued the order after reviewing submissions made by officials from the Bribery Commission as well as arguments presented by the defense counsel.
As per the court’s decision, Dr. Wijeratne was released on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and two surety bonds valued at Rs. 5 million each.
Additionally, the court imposed a ban preventing her from entering Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital. A travel ban has also been issued against her, according to reports.
