Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday (22) ordered Colombo Chief Coroner Naladhara to conduct a post-mortem examination on the body of the late Lalith Kotalawala, who was a well-known businessman. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
The complaint that the death was suspicious was made to the Bambalapitiya police by Shereen Fernando (84), the elder sister of Cecilia Kothalawala, the wife of Lalith Kothalawala.
It has been revealed that Lalith Kotalawala was living separately with some of his employees in his Bambalapitiya house and Cecilia Kotalawala was living separately in another house in the same Bambalapitiya area.
The complainants have said that Lalith was detained by a separate group in Kothalawala for five years. The complainant party has also informed that this group has taken possession of the valuable property of Lalith Kothalawala in a fraudulent manner.
On behalf of the family, Hafeel Faris and Sanjeeva Kodituvakku lawyers informed the court that the death of Lalith Kotalawala is suspicious.
At the same time, the magistrate has also conducted an on-site inspection, and a forensic examination is scheduled to be held today (23) at the Colombo Forensic Medical Officer’s office.
Even now, Lalith Kotalawala’s dead body has been placed in the private hospital’s mortuary. After being a famous businessman in Sri Lanka, he was living a quiet life after the collapse of the business network.
