Mr Doreswami Mathyugaraja, a politician and a high-ranking labour leader with more than thirty years of diversified political and trade union experience, can be said to have extensive knowledge of politics and trade unions. A multilingual speaker of English, Tamil and Sinhala, Mr. Doreswamy Mathyugaraja is also a writer.
He was elected to the Kandy Municipal Council in 1991 with the highest number of votes.
In the year 2004, he contested the parliamentary election from Kandy district and got 40000 votes, but lost the parliamentary seat and again in 2004 became the chairman of the Central Provincial Council. Also, he was re-elected to the Central Provincial Council from 2013 to 2018 and served as its leader. Moreover, it has been included in the national list in 3 parliamentary elections.
Mr. Doreswamy Mathyugaraja is a mature politician who has held many positions as the head of international affairs of the Ceylon Labor Congress, in charge of labour education, as a member of the Ceylon Labor Congress Constitution Amendment Committee, and as a member of the Committee on Provincial Delimitation.
