Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa concluded their crucial Zoom discussion on Legislative Council representative appointments.

The three civil organisation representatives have been discussed, but no decision has been made.

However, sources say the Leader of the Opposition stressed the need to definitely elect government and opposition representatives to protect the Constituent Assembly’s independence.

Sources said the opposition leader wants these representatives elected first.

After that, an agreement was reached to appoint three independent civil organisation representatives.

The proposal scheduled to present in the parliament on the 5th has been postponed.
