The president’s counsel Mr. Saliya Peiris stated before the additional magistrate of Colombo Mrs. Rajindra Jayasuriya that there was no note in the taster’s report that there was any form of cyanide in the vomit sample that was smeared on the clothes of Mr. Dinesh Shafter, the director of the Janashakti during the examination of the clothes of the deceased, did Mr. Dinesh Shafter commit suicide? Or killed? The court was asked to draw the attention of the five-member expert medical board committee appointed to take a decision.
Furthermore, Mr. Shafter had injuries all over his body and the forensic medical officer Mr. Ruhulhaqdid not take care of them the matters mentioned in the medical report of psychiatrist Mr. Neil Fernando also did not reflect Mr. Shafter’s mental condition, President’s Attorney Sally Peiris told the court.
The lawyer asked the court to pay attention to the panel of experts regarding such matters.
The Magistrate stated that the orders were unnecessary as the expert committee had been informed about all the matters that were considered before the court by the lawyer and said that she would only record the request.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Mrs Rajindra Jayasuriya ordered the panel of experts to release Mr Shafter’s body to his brothers as the five-member medical board has informed that all the investigations conducted regarding the dead body of Mr Dinesh Shafter have been completed.
Did Mr. Dinesh Shafter commit suicide? Or killed? The magistrate told the court that the five-member expert medical board has completed the second post-mortem examination at the Galle Karapitiya Hospital and a final conclusion regarding the death will be given in the near future.
The magistrate ordered that Mr. Shafter’s body be released to Mr. Shafter’s brother and brother-in-law under the guidance of Professor Clifford Perera and expert forensic doctor Ruwanpura.
