Did social media networks crash yesterday because 4 cables were cut in the Red Sea?

A telecom company and a related official in the United States have recently stated that several underwater communication cables in the Red Sea, which affect 25% of the data traffic between Asia and Europe, have been cut. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

Hong Kong-based HGC Global Communications had said four of the 15 cables had been cut.

The reason for this situation is not yet clear and it is stated in foreign media reports that they are trying to find out if these cables were cut intentionally or if they were pulled by an anchor of a ship.

Affected cables are Seacom, TGN, AAE-1 and EIG. However, the Hong Kong-based telecom company said last week that it would mark a significant disruption to communications networks in the Middle East.

Underwater cables are known as the invisible force that drives the Internet. In recent years, internet giants such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook Meta have provided funding for this.
