Some information is being revealed about the appointment of the vice-chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University, which has turned into a crisis in the university sector. Six candidates have applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University. Among them, three who got the highest marks were nominated according to the order of marks and sent in writing to the University Grants Commission to get the President’s approval.
According to that document, Senior Professor R.M.U.S.K. Ratnayake is mentioned at the top among the scorers. He had 82.9 points. The second scorer was Professor Ampitiyawatta and he scored 60.9 points. According to the relevant document, among the rest, Professor Sunil Shanta with a score of only 60.6 points.
Out of the six candidates who appeared for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University, the remaining three got 57.9, 55.3 and 51.7 marks.
Based on these scores, the Governing Council of Sabaragamuwa University sent the three highest scorers and their list of scores to the University Grants Commission.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has named Sunil Shanta as the Vice Chancellor of Sabaragamuwa University.
It is reported that this is a wrong precedent for institutions like universities and that making this lowest scorer the vice-chancellor is an unnecessary political interference for the universities.
