According to information, Nandun Chinthaka, also known as Harak Kata, who was in police custody in Dubai, was freed by the police yesterday (03).

Harak Kata, Sri Lanka’s top drug trafficker and underworld criminal, was released because the crime paperwork against him was not filed to Dubai authorities on time.

It was also disclosed yesterday at a meeting of police chiefs headed by the Minister of Public Security, Mr. Tiran Alas, that the file that should have been submitted to Dubai was already in the Ministry of State Security (03).

It was also discovered that on September 18, the Criminal Investigation Department transferred the file to the Ministry of Defense.

There, the Minister instructs the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security to take the required measures to transmit the file to the Dubai authorities.

The Criminal Investigation Department should have transmitted the file to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instead of the Ministry of Defense.

The file has been delivered to Dubai authorities via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Harak kata was apprehended by Dubai police on August 11 as he came at the airport to fly to Malaysia from Dubai.

That is according to a red warrant issued by the International Police against him. He was arrested while carrying a passport with the number M 6692136.

The Police Narcotics Bureau identified the foreign passport number and informed the International Police about Harak Katha, who appeared on a foreign passport prepared in the name of Herath Dissanayake’s Roshan Isanka.

According to the Police Narcotics Bureau, it has seized more than one tonne of heroin linked to Harak Kata’s drug network in the previous two years alone.

When such a large quantity of drugs is apprehended, it is suspected that a similar or larger quantity of drugs was also transported into Sri Lanka.

Harak Kata was the mastermind behind several of the underworld shootings exposed by the May 30 shooting attack on Bastion Mawatha in Colombo.

With the arrest of Harak Kata in Dubai, there was a decrease in the number of underworld shootings and a lack of drugs throughout the country.

The Criminal Investigation Department, in collaboration with the International Police, made a concerted attempt to return Harak Kata to Sri Lanka, indicating that they would not release him and would promptly transmit documentation pertaining to the charges and offences against him to the Dubai authorities. –
