Dayasiri Jayasekara to File Case Against Government Over Inaction on Weather Disaster
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Samagi Jana Balawegaya Kurunegala District MP and Attorney-at-Law Dayasiri Jayasekara announced that he intends to file a case against the government for failing to take necessary action despite receiving advance warnings about the recent weather disaster, Sri Lanka Latest News reports.

He compared the incident to the Easter Sunday attacks, emphasizing its severity.

The MP highlighted that both the Meteorological Department and the Irrigation Department had alerted the government about the impending disaster in advance. He stated that if authorities had systematically reduced water levels in the main reservoirs, such a calamity could have been avoided.

Jayasekara further criticized the arbitrary opening of spill gates in multiple reservoirs simultaneously, noting that this action exacerbated the severity of the disaster.
