Cyclone ‘MICHAUNG’ is ready to enter inland! More than 75 mm of rain in the evening! I Sri Lanka Latest News

The Cyclonic storm “MICHAUNG” (PRONOUNCED AS “MIGJAUM”) over Southwest Bay of Bengal was located near latitude 12.8°N and longitude 81.6°E, at 2330hrs of 03 December and about 365 km northeast of Jaffna. The system is expected to intensify further and move northwestward away from Sri Lanka towards North Tamil Nadu coast of India. Thereafter, it would move northwards and cross South Andhra Pradesh coasts around December 05, 2023. 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, Southern and North-western provinces. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 01.00 p.m.

As of yesterday (03), the Cyclone “MICHAUNG” which was in the Southwest Bay of Bengal sea area, was located in the vicinity of North Latitude 12.8° and East Longitude 81.6°, km from Jaffna. According to the Department of Meteorology, about 365 in the northeast direction. Sri Lanka Latest News

The department notes that the system will continue to develop and move northwest away from Sri Lanka.

It is expected to move towards North Tamil Nadu and then northwards and make landfall over the South Andhra coast by tomorrow (05).

The Department of Meteorology says that due to this, occasional rain or thundershowers are possible in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North, South and North-West provinces.

The Department of Meteorology states that some places in those areas will receive mm. Heavy rains above 75 are also possible.
