The Court of Appeal has dismissed, without proceeding to a hearing, a petition filed by Western Provincial Local Government Commissioner Sarangika Jayasundara. The petition sought an interim injunction to halt the secret ballot scheduled for the election of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha.
The petition was originally filed by opposition members of the Seethawaka Pradeshiya Sabha.
The ruling was delivered by a bench comprising the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, and Justice Priyantha Fernando.
In a related development, the Court also dismissed petitions filed concerning the Mawathagama and Seethawaka Urban Councils.
