A court order has been issued to prevent a protest planned for today (March 4) by a group of conveners and activists of the Unemployed Teachers’ Association. The protesters, who have passed their exams but remain unemployed, intended to demonstrate at the Polduwa Junction.

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Welikada Police obtained the court order based on intelligence reports indicating that the protest could obstruct public movement by blocking roads. Responding to requests from the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, the following individuals have been issued this order:

  1. Sudesh Rupasinghe – Graduate of the University of Jayewardenepura
  2. Dhammika Munasinghe – Representative of the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
  3. Amanda Gamage – Representative of the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
  4. Dinusha Ekanayake – Representative of the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association
  5. Purnima Nadeesha – Representative of the Joint Unemployed Graduates Association

The court order prohibits all respondents and their followers from:

  • Blocking roads or engaging in any activity that would obstruct public movement.
  • Engaging in protests or acts of violence that could disrupt pedestrians or vehicular traffic.
  • Violating parliamentary privileges of public representatives.
  • Interfering with the duties of public officials on duty.

The order further states that if the organizers cannot ensure that the protest remains non-disruptive, they must immediately disperse. In the event of any violation, the Sri Lanka Police has been instructed to take immediate action to maintain public order.
