Shanta Bandara, Minister of State for Media, said that although a resolution was passed against Sri Lanka at the Geneva Human Rights Session, what actually happened was that 27 countries acted in favor of Sri Lanka.
He further said that although 20 countries voted against Sri Lanka, 27 countries supported Sri Lanka.
China, Pakistan, Bolivia, Cuba, Eritrea, Uzbekistan and Venezuela voted in favor of Sri Lanka and India, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brazil, United Arab Emirates,
20 countries, including Qatar, abstained from voting on the resolution.
Speaking on behalf of Sri Lanka at the 51st session of the Human Rights Council, Foreign Minister and President’s counsel Ali Sabri said that he completely rejects the new proposals brought about by Sri Lanka.
In the Geneva Human Rights Commission, the proposal against Sri Lanka was initially expected to receive 30 votes, but only 20 countries voted in favor of the proposal.
