The Consumer Affairs Authority has initiated a special census of rice stocks under the direction of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The census will be conducted over two days, today (26) and tomorrow (27), covering four selected districts. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the findings from this census are set to be submitted to the President on Monday.
This move comes in response to recent consumer complaints about a shortage of rice in the market and rising prices. President Dissanayake recently convened a meeting with major rice mill operators to address these issues, where he directed them to ensure that rice is sold at regulated prices.
