A high-level discussion was held between the International Trade Commission and the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) at the Authority’s head office to address the importance of updating existing regulations and the role of the CAA in overseeing organic products available in the market.
The meeting focused on key issues surrounding organic products, including market challenges, regulatory measures, and consumer protection. The CAA outlined the actions taken so far against traders who mislead consumers by selling falsely labeled organic products, including product testing and enforcement measures. The progress of these initiatives was also reviewed.
Discussions further covered strategies to promote high-quality organic products, product certification, producer registration, export market development, and consumer rights protection. Emphasis was placed on the need for regulatory awareness and the enforcement of laws to ensure that consumers receive organic products of the required quality at fair prices without misleading claims. The representatives underscored the necessity of updating existing regulations to align with international market standards.
During the meeting, representatives of the International Trade Commission formally requested the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority to extend the CAA’s support in this regulatory process.
The discussion, aimed at positioning the Consumer Affairs Authority as a key regulatory body in the organic product market, was attended by:
Mr. Tom Nassir, International Advisor, UK Trade Promotion Program
