Election Commissioner General Mr. Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that all activities for the election are being carried out properly.
He said this while speaking to the media about the local government elections.

Mr. Saman Sri Ratnayake, the  Commissioner,General Election who also commented there and said,

The election must be held between 5 and 7 weeks after the nominations are accepted.

Will there be a paper shortage for ballot paper printing?

We print everything for the election with the government printing department. According to this, the press officer and other staff did not mention any such issue. All necessary activities are completed in a timely manner. We should have held this election last year, so we had been preparing for it since then.

How should the financial crisis be handled?

Our role as the Election Commission is to carry out the constitutionally mandated duties. The provision of necessary financial facilities is mandated by the constitution as a responsibility of the current government. As a result, we are confident that the Treasury and related institutions will complete the necessary work.

The Election Commission announced today that nominations for 340 local government bodies will be accepted from the 18th to the 21st.

As a result, the nomination period will end on the 21st at 12 noon.

Nominations are being sought for 340 local government institutions, including 24 municipal councils, 41 urban councils, and 275 regional councils.

This local government election is expected to attract 9,347 nominations.

However, because the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha’s term of office has not yet expired, its nominations are not being called.

The acceptance of security deposits for the polls began today and will conclude on the 20th at 12 noon.

As a result, a security deposit of 1,500 rupees is required for one candidate nominated by a recognised political party, and 5,000 rupees is required for a candidate nominated by an independent group.

In addition, the acceptance of postal voting applications for local government elections will begin tomorrow.

The deadline for submitting postal ballot applications is January 23 at 12 a.m.
