Constitutional Council Rejects President’s Nominee H.T.P. Chandana for Auditor General Post in Sri Lanka

The Constitutional Council today rejected the nominee put forward by the President for the post of Auditor General, with a majority voting against the recommendation.

The position has remained vacant for 42 days following the retirement of the former Auditor General.

According to reports, the President had proposed H.T.P. Chandana—currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Petroleum Corporation—for the role. However, consensus on this recommendation could not be reached during the Council’s meeting held yesterday.

As a result, the Constitutional Council reconvened today to reconsider the proposal. During the vote, three members supported the President’s nominee, while five voted against. One member abstained from voting.

This development was also highlighted in Parliament today, where Members of Parliament Dr. Harsha de Silva and Mujibur Rahman voiced their concerns and opinions on the matter.

Meanwhile, the National Front of Professionals, along with the Sri Lanka Audit Services Association, addressed the issue at a press conference held earlier today.
