Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to promptly initiate a thorough investigation into the alleged deletion of computer data containing details of SriLankan Airlines’ tender board transactions.

The Chief Magistrate also instructed the CID’s Computer Crime Investigation Division to confiscate the computer’s data storage (hard drive), submit it to the government inspector, and obtain a detailed report.

Furthermore, the Magistrate ordered SriLankan Airlines to provide all relevant information regarding the tender transactions related to the purchase of three economy-class buses (coaches) to assist the CID’s investigation.

These directives were issued following a complaint submitted to the court by Thushara Janaka, Managing Director of Heli Associates International Private Company. The complaint alleges a criminal breach of trust in relation to a $738,000 loss his company incurred due to the bus purchase transactions with SriLankan Airlines.

The Chief Magistrate also instructed the CID to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the complaint and submit regular progress reports to the court.
