A three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court has sentenced Samarappulige Niraj Roshan, also known as Ali Roshan, to 15 years in prison with hard labor for two counts of possessing an elephant without a valid license, according to Sri Lanka Latest News.
In addition to the prison sentence, Roshan was fined Rs. 20.6 million. The court also ordered that the elephant involved in the case be confiscated.
The High Court bench, comprising Justices Manjula Thilakaratne, R.S.S. Sapuvida, and Lanka Jayaratne, delivered the verdict following a lengthy hearing.
Furthermore, the bench ordered the acquittal and release of three other defendants who had been charged in connection with the incident.
