The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to two suspects and ordered the release of another in connection with the unlawful approval of a vehicle number plate issued without customs clearance. The incident involves the illegal registration of a motor vehicle at the Department of Motor Traffic.

The suspects — a former Deputy Commissioner and two Managing Assistants of the Department of Motor Traffic — were arrested by the Bribery Commission and produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga in her official chambers.

During the proceedings, the legal counsel representing the suspects submitted a request for their clients to be granted bail.

Officials of the Bribery Commission informed the court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

After reviewing the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that all three suspects be released on personal bail of Rs. 2 million each. Additionally, the court imposed a travel ban on all suspects, prohibiting them from leaving the country.
