A group of civil society activists has lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against Dr. Archuna Ramanathan, an independent Member of Parliament representing the Jaffna district.

The complaint urges the CID to investigate statements made by Dr. Ramanathan in a controversial video shared on Facebook, which has sparked widespread public debate.

In the video, which went viral on social media on November 21, Dr. Ramanathan is seen occupying the seat designated for the Opposition Leader during the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament. Despite repeated requests from parliamentary staff to vacate the seat, he refused to comply.

Subsequently, Dr. Ramanathan shared another video on social media, claiming his allegiance to former LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. His Facebook page prominently features the LTTE symbol, the “Niyagala Mala.”

The activists’ complaint centers on these statements and actions, urging the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
