The Cinnamon garden police received an anonymous phone call at around 6.00 pm today that a gunshot was heard from the direction of this house. Accordingly, a team of officers including the Station Commander of the Cinnamon garden Police Crime Division went to Barnes Place No. 18 to investigate the matter. The police say that the house is a two-store house. The police officers who went there found that there was no shooting. But the police say that a group of people with sticks and sticks stayed behind. It is also said that when the police went there, several people had fled.
When the police investigated this house, it was found that the owner of the house is staying in Australia for some time and he had died there. The police have found that there are various rumors that he is a permanent resident of Australia.
A high-ranking police officer stated that a group of people had come here in accordance with the plan of some person to take over this house and land, which is now forested and devoid of human habitation, under the guise of cleaning.
On further investigation, it has been found that there is a competition between two groups to occupy this land and the house. As a result, a suspicion has arisen that one group has taken a group of people and stayed there and that the other group made the phone call that they heard gunshots.
The police said the 26 arrested were from Ja-Ala – Kotuguda, Colombo 02 – Dispensil Lane, Colombo 02 – Union Place, Dematagoda – Gnanavimala Mawatha, Dematagoda – Katavalamulla, Maradana, Sevanagala, Modara – Henamulla, Kompanjaveediya, Kirulapana, Colombo 02 – Church Lane. , Kompanjaveediya Stewart Street, Dematagoda – Mihindusenpura, Colombo 02 – Saunkot, Dematagoda – Mallikarama Apartments. Out of these, 13 people are residents of Colombo 02 Kompanjaveedi. In addition, there are 06 residents of Dematagoda.
The investigation has revealed that these people were brought here in an organized manner under the guise of cleaning the land and the house and the plan was to acquire the house and the land.
Such land acquisitions in Kurunduwatta and its surrounding areas have been happening for a long time. A special section of the Criminal Investigation Department had been established some time ago to conduct investigations into this crime, which is carried out by the power of the underworld and politics.
Due to the July 1983 riots and acts of terrorism, many people living in Kurunduwatta and its surrounding areas left the country and moved to many countries including Europe. A senior police officer said that it is the lands of such people who are in the grip of these land scammers.
The police have also investigated the facts regarding this land, but the village officer in charge of the area has also confirmed to the police that the residence of the house where this land is located has not been confirmed for many years.
At least in the voter list, it is stated that no resident can be found here. Accordingly, the police say that during the questioning of these arrested suspects, they do not say anything properly even about the people who brought them here. The arrested suspects were released on personal bail of 50,000 rupees each after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The case related to this is scheduled to be heard today (10).
