The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team probing the alleged misuse of Rs. 16.6 million in state funds by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to attend his wife’s graduation ceremony at a university in the United Kingdom has been summoned to the Attorney General’s Department on Monday.

The discussion, involving the CID team that recently returned from the UK, is intended to review the progress of the investigation and to provide necessary directions on the matter. The Sunday Times learns that special attention will be paid to the available evidence in the case.

The meeting has been coordinated by CID Director Shani Abeysekara and will be attended by Police officers S. Wedamulla and Naninda Herath. The CID team is scheduled to meet Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris and Senior State Counsel Samadari Piyasena.
