CID Questions Udayanga Weeratunga and Wife Over 2007 MiG Aircraft Deal
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (12) recorded statements from former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga, and his wife in connection with the controversial MiG aircraft procurement.

The investigation relates to allegations of misappropriating nearly US$ 7.833 million in public funds during the purchase of MiG-27 fighter aircraft from Ukraine for the Sri Lanka Air Force in 2007.

Although the case files were closed during the previous Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna government, sources say the investigations have now been reopened.

Udayanga Weeratunga is a close relative of the Rajapaksa family.
