The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an inquiry into a video aired by a foreign television network concerning the Easter Sunday attacks.

A complaint from an external organization about the content of the video was initially submitted to the Ministry of Public Security, then forwarded to Police Headquarters, and subsequently assigned to the CID for further investigation.

The video in question was part of a report by British television network Channel 4, featuring an interview with Mohamed Mihilal Mohamed Hafsir, also known as Azad Maulana, a Sri Lankan national. This segment aired on or around September 6, 2023.

The CID is now actively investigating the controversial claims presented in the video, which include allegations linked to the Easter Sunday attacks and related charges under the Penal Code, including conspiracy.

As part of this investigation, the CID presented the relevant information to the Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Attorney-at-Law Nihal Thalduwa stated at a media briefing that Shivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, has been summoned by the CID in relation to the Easter Sunday attack investigation. He was called to appear at the CID at 9:30 this morning, according to the spokesperson.
