Accordingly, the Police Media Spokesperson told Hiru News that electronic equipment such as computers, laptops, telephones, SIM cards, and other related items will be examined as part of the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department has also initiated a separate special investigation into the incident in which US$ 2.5 million belonging to the Treasury allegedly came into the possession of a third party.

In addition, Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, stated that investigations into the matter have been initiated through all relevant sectors.

The Free Lawyers’ Association has also called for an open meeting of the Public Accounts Committee to be convened during the upcoming parliamentary session regarding the controversial financial transaction in the Treasury. The organization further urges that steps be taken to initiate an investigation involving the Auditor General.

The association has sent a letter to the Chairman of the relevant Committee, Member of Parliament Kabir Hashim, pointing out that although the matter was brought to the Committee’s attention, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance was granted the opportunity to postpone it for one month.

It is noted that it has been nearly two weeks since the details regarding the incident of US$ 2.5 million in the Treasury falling into the hands of a third party were first revealed.
