A little while ago, the suspect was arrested in the Pannipitiya area.
The Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued a restraining order prohibiting this person from leaving the country.
This is according to a request made by the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department, which is investigating the person in question.
A person named Mahinda Kodituvakku who came to the island from Katunayake International Airport under the name of Avalokiteswara was circulating on social media as he was being worshipped by his followers.
It also included how he arrived at Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara in a luxury car and a group of people including a Silmatava offered him prayers.
Several parties, including the Commissioner General of Boddha Affairs, had complained to the Criminal Investigation Department asking to start an investigation on him.
Accordingly, the Department’s Computer Crime Investigation Division, which investigated the matter, submitted the progress of the investigation to the Fort Magistrate Court.
The Senior Deputy Solicitor General had requested permission from the Magistrate to impose a travel ban on this person and to allow him to check his bank accounts.
Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, who allowed it, ordered to inform the court about the progress of the investigation on the 17th.
