It is reported that the Chief Inspector of Police, who was acquitted after being detained for 34 months on the evidence given by the Investigation Division of the Easter Commission, is selling coconuts for a living, as he is not yet reinstated. Sri Lanka Latest News
That is Chief Inspector Tagur Thambi Abubakar. It was revealed in the Easter Commission that Sara Jasmin, alias Pulastini Mahendran Saindamarudu, who was the talk of the whole country after the Easter attack, survived the bombing and was taken safely to Mannar from Batticaloa in a jeep by this officer. A Kalavanchikudi Padunchikar named Selvaraj Devakumar was also arrested along with him.
Arjun Mahinkanda, the Station Officer of the Investigation Division of the Easter Commission, was arrested on the basis of a testimony given by a private spy. Finally, I was jailed for 34 months. Ultimately, CID and TID told me that I had fabricated false evidence that Sara had fled to India. It was revealed with proof. Finally, Mahinkanda, who made me a false witness and jailed me, took a promotion and fled the country.
There is no way to pay the debts taken by my family during my imprisonment. Six members of the family lived because of me. I have seven more months to go to pension. I don’t even have money to buy medicine for the illnesses I got while in prison. Since I was acquitted, they asked me to be reinstated, but it still did not happen. People come to the house asking for borrowed money. Now I go and sell coconuts and the family lives. They buy coconuts for 50 rupees and sell them for 60 rupees. There is no money to even come to Colombo from Akkareipattu. Now I have to drink and die…’ said Chief Inspector of Police Abubakar.
