Central Province Schools Issue Same Tamil Question Paper to Grades 08 and 09, Investigation Launched

The Central Provincial Education Department has launched an investigation into an incident where the same Tamil language question paper was mistakenly issued to both Grade 08 and Grade 09 students in Sinhala medium schools during the second term examination.

Central Provincial Education Director Nihal Alahakoon confirmed that the paper in question was intended for Grade 08 students, but was erroneously distributed to Grade 09 students as well. He assured that an inquiry is underway, and that steps will be taken to re-issue the correct Tamil language paper to the affected Grade 09 students.

According to Ceylon Teachers’ Union Secretary Joseph Stalin, upon comparing the two papers, only the grade designation differed—both sets contained identical questions. He expressed concern over the impact of this mistake, stating that the quality of education in the Central Province has been severely compromised due to administrative shortcomings.

Stalin further called on the Governor of the Central Province to take this issue seriously and conduct a thorough investigation, emphasizing that previous incidents have already eroded trust in the examination process among students and parents. He warned that such blunders would only further diminish confidence in the education system.
