The Governor of the Central Province, Prof. S.B.S., has decided to change the name of the Keheliya Rambukwella Model Primary School, located in the Kundasale Division of the Wattegama Education Zone in Kandy, with immediate effect. Approval for the change was granted by Mr. Abhayakon on the 16th of this month. The proposal to rename the school as “Kundasale Royal Primary School” was submitted by the structure committee of the Provincial Education Department and has been officially approved by the Governor.

In recent years, several trade unions and parent organizations, including the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, led by its Secretary, Mr. Joseph Stalin, had called for a name change. These calls came after various allegations were made against Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella.

Originally, in 2012, the school was named after Mr. Rambukwella as part of the Nanoda Education Development Program and the “Nearest School is the Best School” initiative by the Central Provincial Education Department. However, following the new decision, the school will now be officially known as Kundasale Royal Primary School.
