In the last 10 months, the electricity supply of 7,88,235 consumers has been suspended due to failure to pay electricity bills. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

Due to the increase in electricity bills due to the economic crisis – the increase in the cost of living including the increase in taxes and the fall in the value of the rupee, paying the electricity bill is currently a challenge.

It is in such a background that the government has raised electricity tariffs three times this year.

Engineer Noel Priyantha, media spokesman of the Electricity Board, said that the most suspension of electricity supply is recorded in August.

That number is one lakh 20,474.

In the month of July alone, the electricity supply of one lakh 18 481 consumers has been suspended.

In the month of October alone, the number of consumers whose electricity supply has been suspended is one lakh 6106.
