The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union has announced that it will intensify its trade union action starting tomorrow.
Executive Committee Member Dhanushka Parakramasinghe stated that, accordingly, the collaborative work currently being carried out with senior officials of the Electricity Board will be suspended from tomorrow.
He further emphasized that if their demands are not met, the union will resort to more severe trade union actions in the future.
Meanwhile, the Electricity Users’ Union has expressed its opposition to the government’s plan to once again increase electricity tariffs.
Its President, M.D.R. Athula, made this statement while addressing a media conference held in Colombo today.
In addition, Priyantha Wickramasinghe, General Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Board New Employees’ Union, stated that there is no necessity to raise electricity tariffs at this time.
Furthermore, Supun Abeysekara, Secretary of the National Construction Workers’ Union, warned that any increase in electricity tariffs could cause a serious setback to the construction sector.
