The Electricity Board has said that the increase in electricity rates is expected to cover the production costs incurred for obtaining thermal power due to the recent dry weather conditions throughout the country.
The Ceylon Electricity Board recently made a request to the Public Utilities Commission to once again impose electricity charges for that purpose.
Accordingly, since this is a request to increase the price before the tariff revision system, a detailed presentation will be made to the Public Utilities Commission in the next two days, a spokesperson of the Electricity Board said.
The Ceylon Electricity Board has requested the Public Utilities Commission to allow the electricity tariff revision to be carried out this month according to the rate revision method.
