The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has issued a strong warning to the public regarding fraudulent AI-generated videos that misuse the image of the CBSL Governor. These deceptive videos, currently circulating on social media—particularly Facebook—falsely depict the Governor endorsing investment schemes that promise extraordinary financial returns. Additionally, they direct viewers to a suspicious external link, likely designed to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
CBSL categorically denies any involvement in such promotions and reaffirms that it neither engages in nor endorses any investment schemes. These videos are clear attempts by fraudsters to mislead the public through deep-fake technology and AI-generated content.
The public is strongly urged to:
- Remain vigilant and avoid interacting with such fraudulent content.
- Verify information only through official CBSL sources, including the CBSL website (www.cbsl.gov.lk) and its official social media pages.
- Report suspicious content to CBSL through its official communication channels for clarification.
CBSL is actively collaborating with law enforcement authorities to take necessary action against these scams. Furthermore, the Bank calls upon media organizations to assist in raising public awareness by reporting on these fraudulent activities through traditional and digital media, including news reports, television, radio announcements, and online platforms.
