On the recommendations of the Attorney General’s Department, the case was concluded yesterday (25) when the hearing was held for 4 years at the Kandy Additional No. 2 Court regarding the allegations filed by the Central Environmental Authority under No. 29014/20 of the year 2019 against lawyer Chamindrani Kiriella regarding a Hantana land. Speaking to the media after the trial, lawyer Chamindrani Kiriella said that the case was dismissed by the court as there was no evidence.
She also said:
In 2019, the Central Environment Authority filed a case based on false allegations regarding a Hantana land belonging to me. Four years later, the Central Environment Authority has withdrawn this case on the advice of the Attorney General’s Department in the Hon’ble Court.
Actually, this land is a land that my father bought with private money forty years ago. This is a land that was privately owned for about a hundred years before my father bought it. Later I got this land through a gift deed.
With the change of government that happened in 2019, this case was filed with the Central Environmental Authority for the purpose of smearing my father and our family and for political revenge. Four years later, the Attorney General’s Department today instructed to immediately withdraw this baseless case with false allegations.
My father is a famous politician in Kandy district. This case was filed to smear him, me and our family, to defame him and to take political revenge. In the future, we will take maximum legal action against this insult. The lawyer said.
