It is reported that the opposition has decided to demand an interpretation regarding President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s decision to keep 04 ministerial posts in his charge.

According to Article 22, although the President has the ability to hold the Ministry of Defense, he can take over other ministries only for 14 days.

After that, those ministries should be assigned to a Member of Parliament.

Accordingly, the opposition has decided to request an interpretation from the court regarding the president taking over these 4 ministries.

According to the gazette notification issued, the Ministry of Monetary and Economic Stabilization and National Policy, the Ministry of Technology, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Social Empowerment as well as the Ministry of Investment Promotion are to be kept in charge of the President.

In addition to these 04 ministries, the Ministry of Defense is also under the President.
