A proposal submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to appoint a special committee, chaired by Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, to develop the energy economy has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. Sri Lanka Latest News
The government has recognized the importance of exploring innovative and forward-looking approaches, as well as implementing them, to achieve and sustain sustainable growth in the national economy.
Accordingly, although the energy economy has been identified as a priority sector, Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that due to weaknesses in coordination among key economic sectors, investment in this sector has faced setbacks.
Taking these factors into consideration, the President highlighted the need for an integrated economic development framework to build a sustainable economy in the 2026 budget, the Minister said while addressing the media on the Cabinet decision.
Therefore, the Cabinet has approved the President’s proposal to appoint a special committee, chaired by Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, to formulate a framework for developing the energy economy in a manner consistent with national policies, strategies, and outcome-oriented frameworks.
