Chinese automaker BYD has announced its largest-ever vehicle recall, affecting more than 115,000 Tang series and Yuan Pro models manufactured between 2015 and 2022. The recall comes in response to design flaws and battery-related safety risks, according to a statement released by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) on Friday.
BYD has submitted a plan to the SAMR to recall 44,535 Tang series vehicles produced between March 2015 and July 2017, citing component design defects that could lead to abnormal functioning.
Additionally, the company plans to recall 71,248 Yuan Pro electric vehicles manufactured between February 2021 and August 2022, due to manufacturing issues linked to battery installation.
This latest action follows several recalls by the company in recent months. In January 2025, BYD recalled 6,843 Fangchengbao Bao 5 plug-in hybrid off-road SUVs over potential fire hazards. Prior to that, in September 2024, the automaker recalled nearly 97,000 Dolphin and Yuan Plus EVs due to a manufacturing fault in the steering control unit, which also posed fire risks.
